Sainte-Justine’s Tree of Lights

Sainte-Justine’s Tree of Lights came into being in 2008. It all started with the staff at Rythme FM, who had the dream of putting up the world’s largest holiday tree and decorating it with thousands of lights as a symbol of hope and courage for young patients hospitalized at Sainte-Justine at this magical time of year.

The initiative, developed in conjunction with the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation, proved to be a resounding success. It wasn’t long until it had extended to every corner of Quebec, and it has since become a heartwarming fixture of this season of giving.

For this upcoming 9th edition of the Tree of Lights campaign, the general public and business community are invited to show their support for Sainte-Justine by sponsoring lights on the Tree, either online or through a checkout donation at one of 204 Metro grocery stores across the province.

This year’s target is 125,000 lights. For every $5, an extra light will illuminate the night sky.

New this year: businesses are invited to join the movement, either by holding a workplace fundraiser or by sponsoring lights on the Tree as a tribute to their employees, clients or business partners. For more details, please go to the home page .

From December 5 to 15, children and families staying in the hospital will have the opportunity to watch the Tree of Lights become brighter and brighter as donors’ contributions pour in. Those who do not have a direct view of the tree will still be able to enjoy the festivities through a live video feed in their room.

Since 2008, Sainte-Justine’s Tree of Lights has brought in over $3,375,000 in donations.

These funds go toward supporting Sainte-Justine’s mission of excellence and providing assistance to the hospital’s Social Services, whose mission is to reach out to families in difficult financial situations. They are committed to helping parents meet the basic needs of food, transportation, housing, medication and so forth so they can devote their full attention to their child’s treatment and recovery.
